Mysteriously leaving New York, Frey Holland finds herself in an astonishing land called Athia. Frey unexpectedly discovers a magical accessory on her wrist that is endowed with the gift of speech, and she also unlocks a magical power that allows her to traverse the realms of Athia. Officially naming her new metallic friend the bracelet, Frey sets out on a journey hoping to find her way home.

Soon, Frey learns that this beautiful land once thrived under the rule of benevolent matriarchs known as Tantas, but was then mercilessly ravaged by an evil force. A fog descended, turning ordinary animals into bloodthirsty beasts, humans into monsters, and the bountiful lands into dangerous and treacherous territories. The Tantas still rule their respective realms, but now they have become mad and dishonorable sorceresses.

The fog has no effect on Frey, and desperately seeking answers to her questions, she reluctantly agrees to help the last remaining inhabitants of Athia, who see her as their only hope for the future. In these alien and treacherous lands, Frey must delve into the depths of corruption, battle horrifying creatures, challenge the Tantas themselves, and uncover a truth that will give her much more than she hoped for.
