WHAT THIS GAME IS ABOUT

After crash-landing on a constantly changing planet, Selene finds herself in the empty lands of a forgotten civilization, fighting desperately for her life. Every defeat, every death, sends her back to the beginning. With each cycle in this dizzying adventure, the planet and the available equipment change. Each loop opens new possibilities and forces you to find new strategies to fight the local fauna.

The dark yet beautiful decaying world comes to life with breathtaking graphics, full of surprises, while its ever-shifting landscapes hide deadly threats and unexpected plot twists. You will explore dangerous territories and battle through hordes of enemies while trying to unravel the mystery of this strange planet. Returnal’s procedurally generated world offers maximum replayability, and each death only fuels your desire to challenge the new cycle.

Includes all achievements and progress tracking systems. It also features five preset graphic options and in-game performance metrics, including FPS, latency, and CPU and GPU usage.

Breathtaking Graphics

4K resolution1 and multiple display formats — 16:10, ultrawide (21:9), and super-ultrawide (32:9) — provide superior views of Atropos’ landscape. Cutscenes and interface have been adapted for wider formats. High-performance PCs can add depth to lighting with ray-traced shadows and reflections. The game also includes performance-enhancing technologies like NVIDIA’s DLSS and NIS, and AMD’s FSR2.

A New Level of Immersion

Connect a DualSense™ controller to experience the full benefits of haptic feedback and adaptive trigger effects.3 You can also play with a mouse and keyboard or other input devices, customizing controls to your preference. The game introduces advanced settings, including notifications for alternative fire readiness and a tagging system for cooperative communication. It supports Dolby Atmos and allows players to choose between different types of 3D audio.4 Immersive audio technology brings the environment to life and helps you identify the direction of any sound, which may save your life more than once.

Co-op Mode

In online co-op mode, you can share the adventure through Atropos’ ever-changing labyrinths with a friend playing on PC.5 The planet’s aggressive fauna will still try to destroy you, but teamwork opens new possibilities and increases your chances of survival. Players control different versions of Selene from different cycles. Using a device known as Chronosis, found in each biome, the host can summon a friend or match with a random partner. The host’s game progress determines the items available during the co-op session.

Tower of Sisyphus

When you next wake up at the crash site, look up: you'll see a gate leading to the Tower of Sisyphus, which can be accessed with the Icarian Grapnel.5 The gameplay in the tower is different from the main game. In this nearly endless ascent, you’ll need to use all your combat skills to climb as high as possible, setting new records, unlocking unique items, and uncovering new audio logs and fragments of Selene’s story.
