X4: Foundations
X4: Foundations is the latest installment in the popular X series of sandbox space simulation games from Egosoft, featuring action gameplay in a vibrant, evolving universe defined by the principles of TRADE, FIGHT, BUILD, THINK. X4: Foundations is unique in its depth, simulating a vast universe filled with NPC ships and stations that create a realistic economy. The game world is meticulously crafted, with hundreds of stations and thousands of ships trading goods, where prices fluctuate based on supply and demand, and resources are extracted and processed in stages. The economy is closely tied to large-scale conflicts between dynamic factions, meaning every player decision can significantly impact the future of the universe. Step into the game and embark on an unforgettable space adventure!
Begin Your Journey
In X4, you can start your adventure from multiple game beginnings, each with a different character, role, ship, and technology set, as well as varying relationships with other factions. Regardless of your starting point, you are free to develop in any direction you choose. Focus on research, make money through illicit trading and piracy, command massive battle fleets, or become the greatest entrepreneur in the galaxy. The choice is yours!
Pilot Any Ship
X4 allows you to take personal control of any ship, from small scouts to massive carriers. You can pilot from either the cockpit view or an external perspective. The game emphasizes seamless movement between ships, offering a full 3D view. You can exit your ship, walk down a ramp, and traverse a large space station to reach another ship you’ve parked there, even swapping pilots with just a click.
Build Space Stations and Upgrade Your Ships
Constructing space stations and factories has always been a cornerstone of X games. After earning enough money through battles or trade, most players seek to create their own economy and exert greater influence over the universe. X4 offers complete creative freedom, allowing you to build stations from various modules, including production units, living quarters, docks, and more. The powerful planning system lets you drag and connect modules using a set of connectors to create unique designs. Ships can also be customized with a variety of upgrades, including engines, weapons, and equipment that you can visually add to your vessels.
Experience the Most Dynamic X Universe Yet
X4 is the first game in the series that allows races and factions to build and expand their empires freely. The flexibility players have in designing space stations with modular building blocks is also available to the factions. Races expand their empires based on supply and demand, leading to an incredibly dynamic universe where every player action can influence the development of the entire galaxy.
Manage Your Empire with a Powerful Map
As you accumulate more ships and have many NPCs working for you as pilots, crew members, or station managers, the map becomes an indispensable tool for managing your empire. You can issue ship orders with simple clicks and drag commands, planning trade routes graphically, coordinating attacks with your fleet, managing hierarchies, or sending ships on distant exploratory missions.
Discover the Most Detailed Economy in X History
One of the key strengths of X games has always been their realistic economic model. Goods are produced at hundreds of stations and transported by thousands of ships, genuinely changing hands during sales, with prices regulated by this simulated economy. This forms the foundation of our living, evolving universe. In X4, we’ve taken a significant step forward. For the first time, all components of the NPC economy are produced from resources. Ships, weapons, upgrades, ammunition, and even stations—everything is generated by a modeled economy.
Research and Teleportation
The seamless transition between ships and interactions with NPCs managing your assets reaches a new level. Once you build a large fleet, you’ll become particularly interested in researching Teleportation technology. After unlocking it, you can move much faster between ships and personally resolve critical situations faced by your NPCs. When you pilot a ship, any previous commands given to it become mission objectives. Once you leave, your pilot takes over and continues executing those orders.
